It is with great sadness we announce that there will be no more Salsa at the Harem Nightclub. In fact, the Harem Nightclub has closed down for good.
First of all, we apologize for not telling you sooner about our last night of salsa. We did have advance notice from the owners about the Harem closing down but we were asked us not to make the announcement until today.
We would like to thank everyone for coming out to dance with us over the last year and a half. Our final Salsa Friday at the Harem was a bitter sweet ending since it was one of the best turnouts we have ever had. But when faced with the end, there’s no better way to go. Harem could not have existed without the support of the owner Mohammed. We will forever be thankful to him for making it possible to have a dancer run night in Detroit.
Harem was special because so many dancers gave their time and energy to make it the best. We would like to give a special thanks to a few people who consistently went out of their way to help us make sure everyone had a good time.
Thanks to Koki for helping with the set up, door Duty, and with DJ Duty on many nights.
Thanks to Mama Nellie for being there early every night to help us get ready.
Thanks to Sharon for all the decorating for our anniversary party. That deed will not be soon forgotten.
Thanks to Basia for designing our beautiful and classy SKY Mambo fliers.
Thanks to Omega for passing out giant stacks of fliers and helping turn more people on to the salsa craze.
Last but not least, thanks to Geo, Albert, and Ken for capturing all the memories with countless photos.
Just like us, these guys did it all for no payment and would rather be dancing!
It is unfortunate that it could not have lasted longer but, as hard as we pulled
together to make it happen, it just wasn’t meant to last. Perhaps at another time
in another place we will give it another shot. All is not lost, there are still
other places to learn and dance salsa. Be sure to stay tuned to

Until next time!

That party was probably one of the most fun we have ever had! Thanks to everyone for coming out and getting into the spirit of Cinco de Mayo a little early on Friday. Our favorite part of the night was the Jack & Jill Cumbia contest. It was not easy getting all 40 people to sign up at the last minute. Most were hesitant because they thought that they didn't know Cumbia. Turns out no one else knew Cumbia that well either! But you all did great and it was a lot of fun. Congratz to the winners!
A special shout out to our man George, today is his birthday! And another thank you goes out to Sharon for bringing in the chocolate fountain for everyone to enjoy in honor of Georges special day!

It's good to be back! I don't know about you but missing one week felt like an eternity... but fear not, we're back and don't plan on seeing any more breaks in the future.
It has only been 3 weeks since we started on Friday and so far it is working out nicely. Every week I tell the newcomers that the best way to enjoy a salsa night is on the dance floor. That said, we still cannot ignore the fact that salsa is not one of the easiest dances to learn. To help people achieve salsa nirvana as fast as possible we have added a little something extra. Each night we will be passing out a flier with a list of all salsa classes in the Detroit Metro. Lets face it, as good as the salsa classes are at the Harem, sometimes a little more is needed. Lucky for us Detroit has it and we are telling people about it. So be sure to grab one and give it to your friends that are wanting to learn!
Also you people can visit www.yasalsa.com/classes for the online version! My friends, salsa becoming a more and more popular nightlife activity. Now is the time to get involved while the elevator is still rocketing to the top! Get with it!

Hard to believe it has been one year already (my how time flies). To celebrate we had Groupo Salvaje back to perform and once again they tore the house down. We want to thank everyone who helped make this night possible. Sharon did an amazing job with the decorations and George did a great job designing the menus and picking the drink specials for the night.

Each week we will post pictures and video from the night here.
What is the SKY Mambo Project?
It's a mission to create a successful night that is perfect for people who want to learn and
dance salsa in a nightclub setting. Historically, keeping a dedicated salsa night going has been tough (to say
the least). But we feel that given just the right elements, a weekly night dedicated to salsa at a nightclub can
be successful, and this is our first attempt at bringing those elements together.
